One of my new favourite collectives for summer (it’s not new in general, but new to me) is Brian Butler’s Ice Cream People.
Basically, he provides the cone and you provide the ice cream! It is the best.
Aside from the tumblr blog there’s also a blogger presence.
Graphene Makes Water Purification More Efficient
The availability of fresh water is dwindling in many parts of the world, a problem that is expected to grow with populations. One promising source of potable water is the world’s virtually limitless supply of seawater, but so far desalination technology has been too expensive for widespread use.
Now, MIT researchers have come up with a new approach using a different kind of filtration material: sheets of graphene, a one-atom-thick form of the element carbon, which they say can be far more efficient and possibly less expensive than existing desalination systems.

Brazilian artist Vik Muniz entitles this series, Pictures of Magazines 2. He bases his torn, blended and formed magazine scraps on iconic paintings by such artists as Edouard Manet, Van Gogh, Paul Cezanne, and other fore-fathers of art. The patience required is immense.

Joana Avillez made an Illustrated Guide to Fashion’s Biggest Icons –anatomically (and still) glamorously. From the dashing Daphne Guinness, to the marvelous Marc Jacobs, she dissected the icons’ most distinguishing style and their most striking personality traits. She also illustrated Iris Apfel, Susie Bubble, Bill Cunningham, Anna Dello Russo, Tom Ford, Rei Kawakubo, Diane Pernet, and Anna Piaggi.

Italian artist Gino De Dominicis created this 28 meter (91 ft) model of a human skeleton. The work is accurately scaled, though it does feature a rather bizarre nose.

A bunch of street-art blokes getting their ‘floral’ on isn’t as sweet n’ simple as it seems. Cyrcle’s clever Cut It Out campaign has carried their voice with a brilliant contrast of strong political opinion and their choice of pretty floral tones. Right before 4th of July celebrations in America, Cyrcle took to the streets again and finished their latest mural, Beautiful Disaster. [Photos by Carlos Gonzalez]

Lauren Fowler is an illustrator, graphic designer, crafter and thing maker. You can also add ‘musician’ to the list. There is nothing this awesomely talented lady from Cape Town can’t do. She designs the most beautiful window displays for the coolest shops in town, creates logos and the occasional band t-shirts for the likes of the equally cool Miss Texas 1977. The girl to know for sure.

Ondrej Pakav has an eye for detail. The Slovakian macro-photographer shoots tiny insects just after a downpur to get that just caught in the rain look. Quite remarkable really.
